Influences

I was thinking today about all of the artists that have influenced me in some way over the years.
Of course, the first is my mother- a phenomenal artist- she can take a canvas and some oil paints and create a masterpiece.
But the other artists...I began to think of what might have influenced them (I already know what influenced my mom)
What inspired them to create the paintings we know and love today...we might never know, but I do love trying to imagine...
Who are your favorite artists?
My 10 favorite are:
1. Modigliani
2. Basquiat
3. Twombly
4. Pollock
5. Chagall
6. Schnabel
7. Motherwell
8. Frankenthaler
9. Picasso
10. Matisse
Feel free to list your favorites :)

It's been awhile

So I haven't posted in over two years....that is so crazy. I guess life sometimes gets in the way of art and creativity.

I have created some new art recently, just some mixed media collage paintings....paintings of arch fairies and the women I have always drawn, but never painted.

I guess you always come back to what you love...

Oh yeah- I have a blog....

Hello-

It has been ages since I posted here...but I have a very exciting post in store- so read on!

A group of Hutterite students whose teacher had read my beeswax collage instructions on the ARTchix Studio website created some very wonderful beeswax collages and have allowed me to show the pictures here...They live in Manitoba Canada and in my opinion are VERY talented! Now I know you are wondering -who are these very talented artists ?-Well- for privacy reasons, their names have been kept private-(even I don't know them!)..BUT...You can read about their way of life here: http://www.hutterites.org/ And......So.... Here- for your viewing pleasure....the pictures! Well they are placed above the actual post-This blog thing still confuses me sometimes- but you get the idea!

Let me know what you think and I will relay the info to the teacher!

Have a great day!

Take care-

Jen

Arches and Doorways

This is my latest piece. It is called " I will stand beside you". It is available in my Etsy Store.

I was thinking a lot about doorways and arches yesterday and how doorways are sometimes the only thing that stands between you and what you want to accomplish. I created this piece because in my thoughts about doorways I realized it is always nice to start a new adventure in your life with someone else...a partner in crime...someone to tell you that yes-this is the path you need to be on, that this is doorway you should have walked through. Plus I really just like the thought of starting a new adventure, experiencing something new, living life on your own terms, going through that door that said EXIT..you know- just trying new things even if they don't seem like such a good idea afterward..
Until next time-
Jen

Carolina Mixed Media Art Guild Open House Update

Hi All-
Well, this past Sunday (the 25th), was the Carolina Mixed Media Art Guild Open House at Ornamentea in Raleigh, NC.
This was a chance for Mixed Media Artists from North and South Carolina to get together and talk about art, mingle and meet other artists with the same interests.
Jean Skipper, a wonderful artist friend of mine, who owns a gallery called Artist Alley in Southern Pines, N.C. was nice enough to bring a piece (that I had gifted to her), to put on display at the Open House...I was very happily surprised about that. Thanks Jean:)
Overall it was very nice and I met some great artists and saw some lovely art.
Couldn't ask for a nicer day!

New Blog Post

Well-
I have finally done it- I got a blog...I never thought that I would, but hey there is a 1st time for everything.
I guess I should introduce myself...I am Jen and I am a mixed media artist from North Carolina.
I love all types of art and I plan on at least trying each artform once in my life!
I am looking forward to a year of wonderful creativity and I hope to update this blog at least weekly with my artful musings:)
